Judge Dismisses Suit Against Blockbuster
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge dismissed a lawsuit accusing Blockbuster Inc., the world’s biggest video-rental chain, of trying to drive independent retailers out of business by negotiating exclusive contracts with movie studios.
The ruling by Judge Victoria Chaney should end the retailers’ litigation against the video chain and studios including Vivendi Universal and Sony Corp., said Blockbuster lawyer Edward Stead.
A federal judge in Texas dismissed a similar case last June.
Calls to lawyers who represent the retailers weren’t returned.
