Carriers Raise Fares to Offset Fuel Costs

Northwest Airlines Corp., Continental Airlines Inc. and three other major U.S. airlines raised some fares $10 each way because of rising fuel prices.
The increase by Northwest applies to discounted business and leisure fares worldwide. Continental increased fares on about 2,000 flights that start or end at its bases in Houston, Cleveland and Newark, N.J. AMR Corp.’s American Airlines, Delta Air Lines Inc. and US Airways Group Inc. matched the increases on some flights.
