The Times’ All-Star Boys’ Water Polo Teams

FIRST TEAM

Chris Allen El Toro Sr.

The co-MVP of the South Coast League, Allen had 83 goals, 97 steals and drew 78 ejections for the Chargers. His sudden-death goal against Long Beach Wilson in September ended the Bruins’ 44-game winning streak.

Trent Calder Ayala Sr.

Always came up big in important games. He scored five goals in the Division V final, helping the Bulldogs knock off top-seeded and defending champion Bonita, and six in a late-season loss to Servite.

Adam Hewko Servite Sr.

MVP of the Serra League and co-MVP in Division II for the second consecutive season, Hewko had a team-high 74 goals and was second on the team with 69 assists.

Sandy Hohener Foothill Sr.

Stopped 327 shots in goal, one shy of the season school record. A U.S. youth team member, Hohener was the Sea View League co-MVP and was selected to the Division I first team for the second consecutive season.

Grant Miller Damien Sr.

Co-MVP of Division V along with Calder. He carried Damien throughout the season and nearly to a second consecutive section title, scoring seven goals and handing out two assists in a 14-10 loss to Ayala.

Frank Reynolds Foothill Sr.

Used powerful, accurate outside shooting skills to score 115 goals for the Knights, the third-highest total in school history. Scored five goals in sudden-death loss to Long Beach Wilson in Division I semifinal.

Scott Swanson Long Beach Wilson Jr.

Voted Division I player of the year after totaling 84 goals and 49 assists in helping the Bruins to third consecutive section title. Scored game-winner in sudden-death victory over Foothill in a semifinal.

Sergio Macias Montebello Coach

In only his third season at the school, he led Montebello to the school’s first section title in any sport since 1982. Before this season, Montebello was 6-16 in the postseason.
