Suspected Drug Cartel Accountant Surrenders

From Times Wire Reports

A man believed to be a leading member of Cali’s cocaine cartel and who is wanted in the United States has surrendered to police, Colombia’s judicial police chief said.

Daniel Serrano Gomez, who allegedly served as the cartel’s accountant, gave himself up to police Friday in the central city of Bucaramanga, Col. Oscar Naranjo told reporters.

Naranjo said Serrano is believed to be the third-highest-ranking member of the cartel now in custody -- after the two brothers who founded the organization, Gilberto and Miguel Rodriguez Orejuela. The U.S. has asked Colombia to extradite the Rodriguez brothers, who have been jailed since 1995.
