Gang members attacked a train carrying nearly 100 illegal migrants near Mexico’s border with Guatemala, killing three people.
The 25 members of the Salvatrucha gang attacked with guns and machetes Tuesday in Tuzantan, where gangs have killed more than 70 people in the last year, said state Public Safety Secretary Horacio Schoeder. Police captured 10 suspects.
Migrants headed to the U.S. are often targeted because they are known to carry cash.
The Salvatrucha formed in Los Angeles in the 1980s and incubated in Central America after gang members were deported.
