Shootin’ hoops and hangin’
This New York City native lived in Southern California on and off for three years, but for the last four years it’s been California, says the “CSI: Miami” star who plays Eric Delko on the popular TV show. Rodriguez lives the single life and when he isn’t working or playing in the NBA Celebrity League, he hangs out mostly on the Westside.
Fill and chill
Catch me Friday night after work, I’m usually on my way to a restaurant called Dolce. I have a little stake in the restaurant. One of my friends that I grew up with, Lonnie Moore, is an owner-operator and brought me in. Well yeah, there are some other people who have a stake in it, like Ashton Kutcher -- we play in the same basketball league.
I just have dinner. As for drinks, I’m a vodka drinker. I like it on the rocks, maybe a splash of soda. Every once in a while I’ll have a little Bushmills. The only other thing I’ll have is red wine with my dinner.
After dinner and drinks on Friday, I go to the house and chill.
Eggsistential
I like to sleep as late as I want to on Saturdays, wake up and go have some breakfast at Blueberry’s in Santa Monica. I live on the Westside, but if I make it over to Hollywood, I’ll go to Toast Bakery & Cafe or the Griddle Cafe. My favorite breakfast is eggs Florentine without the hollandaise sauce. If I don’t have that, I’ll have a couple of poached eggs on top of some blueberry pancakes. I do like Roscoe’s, but it’s been a bit since I’ve been there.
It’s the view
Now, Saturday afternoons I like to go to the movies. And I’ve got to go to Hollywood to see movies, either at ArcLight or at the Grove. The last movie I saw was “Kill Bill.” “Mystic River” was great. Oh, yeah, I just saw “Raising Victor Vargas,” that was a special movie.
If I don’t go see a movie, then I’ll go out to Venice Beach and walk around. I like to see all of the artists, the musicians playing their music. The atmosphere is loose and easy. Plus, I like people-watching, so Venice Beach is perfect for that.
Night creature
Saturday night, I’ll have a little dinner at Locanda Porto Fino in Santa Monica on Montana and 11th. They’ve got incredible Italian food there. I’m so used to going out later in New York, I don’t start creeping out until about 11 p.m. When I do, I like Shelter Supper Club on Sunset. Weekends they have hip-hop music and dancing.
A buddy of mine, Keith Bulluck, plays for the Tennessee Titans. I wake up on Sunday and watch his games -- they usually win, so then I’m in a good mood. I might skip breakfast and go somewhere like the Four Seasons for brunch. I might go to the movies or hook up with my sister.
Sunday dinner
Sunday nights, I like to eat at G. Garvin’s on 3rd Street near La Cienega. The food is outstanding; I like to eat at good places so the food is exquisite and the owner is cool. They’ve got a nice setup inside. I might take a date or I’ll eat there and hang out and have some red wine with my friends.
After that, I’ll go home, relax and watch the sports highlights or “The Sopranos” or I’ll go to the DVD collection. I love movies, old movies, all kinds of movies. Sunday night, I turn in early. Got to be ready for work.
