The Riverside County sheriff’s hazardous-device team detonated a bomb found taped to the door of a Lake Elsinore apartment Monday.
Authorities received a call about 7 a.m. reporting a suspicious object at the Lake View Apartments on Riverside Drive, said Sgt. Shelley Kennedy-Smith, a Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman.
Deputies found a soda bottle filled with a powdery substance attached to the door of one of the apartments. About 8:30 a.m., after removing the bomb, the hazardous-device team detonated it, Kennedy-Smith said.
The bomb could have caused major damage and injuries had it exploded, in place, Smith said. Residents in the building were evacuated, and no one was hurt.
The investigation was continuing.
