Old U.S. Mint Building Transferred to the City
From Staff and Wire Reports
The U.S. General Services Administration on Monday conveyed the Old U.S. Mint building to the city.
Mayor Willie Brown said he was proud to have the mint join “the handsome family of historical structures that have been carefully nurtured” in the city.
In January, the San Francisco Museum and Historical Society was selected to help restore the mint. Redevelopment plans include the creation of a San Francisco City Museum and Visitors Center, along with retail and office space.
