A man died in the second fatal street shooting in Pacoima in less than 24 hours, but police said it was not known whether the killings had been related.
Silverio Luna, 22, was gunned down while walking in the 13400 block of Van Nuys Boulevard about 10:45 p.m. Thursday, said Sgt. Tim Torsney of the Los Angeles Police Department. Witnesses said a gray compact car pulled up next to Luna, a Pacoima resident, and someone in the front passenger seat shouted, “Where are you from?”
Before Luna could answer, he was shot in the head, police said. He died shortly afterward. The shooting appears to be gang-related, LAPD spokesman Jason Lee said. “The phrase ‘Where are you from?’ is classic gang lingo,” he said.
Earlier that day, two people were shot to death, and two others were wounded when an unknown assailant opened fire while the four were talking in front of their home in the 10900 block of Jamie Avenue. No arrests have been made.
