Schools Used for Kids’ Health-Care Signups
Health-care officials and educators on Wednesday launched a joint effort to use classrooms in the effort to sign up thousands of needy children eligible for low-cost health insurance.
An estimated 1 million uninsured children in the state are eligible but unenrolled in the low-cost Healthy Families insurance plan or the no-cost Medi-Cal program, with consequences that affect learning and absentee rates.
The project, funded with a $500,000 grant from the California Endowment, joins the California Teachers Assn. and the California Assn. of Health Care Plans.
