Two sounds of Shania Twain

Shania Twain fans may get two CDs for the price of one when her “Up!” album is released on Nov. 19. Twain’s husband and producer, Robert John “Mutt” Lange, reportedly is considering putting out two versions of the 19-song album, one disc with the songs mixed to emphasize the country elements, another with pop-oriented mixes.
A spokeswoman for Mercury Records said that nothing is official yet, but if it is released as a two-CD set, it would sell for the same price as a single CD.
The strategy, which appears to be unprecedented from a major artist, would assure fans who buy “Up!” of getting the version of songs they hear on the radio, whether they were listening to a country or a pop station.
It might also help Twain avoid alienating country radio programmers and fans while still courting her pop audience.
