Rent-A-Center Inc.’s $47-million settlement of gender discrimination lawsuits facing the rent-to-own chain has been approved by a federal judge, the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said.
The settlement covers about 4,600 women who were fired or forced out after Renter’s Choice acquired the company in 1998 or who claimed they were demoted, denied promotions or sexually harassed. The settlement also calls for Rent-A- Center to offer jobs to more than 1,100 women who claimed sex discrimination.
