Republican Confesses to Being a Party Pooper

Re: “Yogi Helps Explain Why the Democrats Struck Out,” Nov. 17:
Here’s why this Republican voted against the GOP in every category this month. I believe in balanced budgets: I don’t believe in raising federal expenditures and cutting taxes, thereby widening the deficit. I believe in real programs to cure the economy, rather than partisan policies benefiting those who are not really affected by a poor economy. I believe in bipartisan government rather than assisting large energy companies to manipulate energy prices for their gain. I believe in personal liberty, rather than permitting Atty. Gen. John Ashcroft to intern indefinitely anyone he suspects of anti-government activity.
Finally, I believe that our huge military budget not only causes serious deficit problems at home, but also does not contribute to world peace.
Is the Orange County Taxpayers Assn.’s sole role in life to reduce tax even if the resulting deficits destroy our economy? Maybe they should rename themselves the Orange County “Massive Aggregate Deficits” Assn. or MAD for short?
