Delta Plans to Launch New Low-Fare Airline
Scrapping its failed Delta Express service, Delta Air Lines Inc. said it will launch a new low-fare airline next year aimed at budget-minded travelers.
The airline will begin in the spring with nonstop service between Florida and the Northeast. Other areas will be added later. Most one-way fares will be $79 to $299.
The new venture is an attempt to win back customers from faster-growing carriers such as Southwest Airlines Co. and JetBlue Airways Corp.
Delta shares fell 68 cents, or 6%, to $10.49 on the NYSE.
