Government Will Give Away Dome, Papers Say
From Times Wire Reports
BRITAIN
The government said it would make an announcement on the future of the maligned Millennium Dome next week as newspapers reported that it was to be handed to developers for free.
The Sunday Telegraph and the Sunday Times said a consortium called Meridian Delta was taking control of the Dome--plus land surrounding it--for nothing. In return, the government will receive a share of the profits from the development of the site, the papers said.
The dome was rated a spectacular waste of money when it did not draw the expected crowds.
