Horses stretching out from 350 yards and others shortening from 870 yards are among those competing in tonight’s main event at Los Alamitos, the $15,000 Scott Lewis Handicap.
A field of 10 will run the 550-yard race, which is the eighth of a nine-race card.
Weeps, a 3-year-old filly, is the likely favorite on the strength of her March 22 victory in the Mission Viejo Handicap.
It was the second consecutive victory at 550 yards for Weeps.
Other contenders include War And Remebrancen, Pops Special Magic and the Double Bar S Ranch-owned entry of Fly Home First and Youcancallmefly.
The sixth, a 41/2-furlong race for $2,000 thoroughbreds, could be the best betting race.
Feathered Friend has 15 victories and Everybody Knows has nine, The Dancer has won 11 times, Chapie has 17 victories, Rex Royal has seven and Star’s Wild is a nine-time winner.
The picks: 1. Fabulous Rhythm. 2. Vagabondia. 3. Im A Pritzi Boy. 4. Elmsford. 5. Kid Charismatic. 6. Rex Royal. 7. Classic Hat Trick. 8. Weeps. 9. Hugo Rules.
Four! Use Fabulous Rhythm and Beda Believe It in the first, single Vagabondia in the second, use Im A Pritzi Boy, Buzzin On By, Oh Beda and Loves To Dash in the third and Elmsford, Brite Cat and Ang ‘N’ Cyn in the fourth.
Shots in the dark: Salty Toast is a firster from a good barn (Donna McArthur) debuting in a soft spot in the fifth. Chapie has had some trouble in his last two and is a threat off his best in the sixth.
