6 in SUV Killed in Rollover

From Associated Press

Six people died Saturday after their sport utility vehicle rolled over on Interstate 15, authorities said.

The accident involving a Ford Explorer occurred about 9:30 p.m. just north of Barstow on the major thoroughfare between Southern California and Las Vegas, said Tracey Martinez, a spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Fire Department. There were no survivors, she said.

It was not known whether any other vehicles were involved. The California Highway Patrol was investigating the cause of the accident.

Several of the victims were thrown from the SUV as it rolled, said CHP Officer Alex Gonzalez.

That stretch of Interstate 15 is one of the deadliest in the state, with at least 127 people killed in the last three years on the highway between Barstow and Nevada.

Barstow is about 90 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
