Critical Thinking
The article on Christian movie-rating services (“Christians Are Putting Faith in Movie-Rating Web Sites,” by Mark Pinsky, May 8) failed to mention the oldest and most well-known of those organizations, Movieguide, which not only has a Web site (www.movie guide.org) but also publishes the biweekly Movieguide magazine with detailed reviews of scores of the latest films.
These efforts are a production of the renowned Ted Baehr’s Christian Film & Television Commission, founded in 1978, which hosts a gala awards banquet each year honoring those films that most promote faith and values. Baehr is to be commended for his ministry, which is dedicated to redeeming the values of the media according to biblical principles.

Once again, my eyes roll and my teeth grind as I see The Times printing that tired old nonsense about “no atheists in foxholes.” Like thousands if not millions of other Americans, I am a military veteran (U.S. Marine Corps) and an atheist.
The next time a believer like Michael Elliott of Christiancritic.com needs a cliche, he could at least be a little original. Instead of “no atheists in foxholes,” maybe he could try “no Christians in a sex scandal.”
