Disney Infringes Copyright, Marvel Says
Marvel Enterprises Inc., publisher of Spider-Man comics, said Walt Disney Co. is marketing Spider-Man cartoon videos with artwork that infringes a copyrighted picture Sony Corp. is using to promote its blockbuster new movie.
In a lawsuit filed in New York, Marvel asked a U.S. district judge to block Disney’s Buena Vista Home Entertainment Inc. from using the illustration to sell Spider-Man cartoons that were released on video last week. Marvel doesn’t object to the release of the videos, for which Buena Vista has a license.
Ken Green, a spokesman for Burbank-based Disney, said the company hadn’t seen the suit.
