Suspected rebels killed 31 people in the west Algerian province of Tiaret, the official Algerian news agency APS quoted government security forces as saying.
The killings brought to four the number of attacks in Tiaret, about 150 miles southwest of Algiers, in eight days, in what may be a rebel attempt to embarrass the government before elections this month.
Twenty people were killed and five wounded in Ksar Chellala, and in Tiaret city, 11 people were killed, the government forces said. They did not say whether the victims were civilians or members of government forces.
