Board OKs Equipment to ID Bioterrorist Agents

The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved buying equipment that would help county laboratory technicians quickly identify bioterrorist agents such as anthrax.
Douglas Moore, director of the county’s Public Health laboratory, had requested $144,760 for a molecular analyzer and a centrifuge. Both were needed to upgrade the laboratory, he said.
After the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the national Centers for Disease Control recommended that the county laboratory become part of a response network for bioterrorism prevention, Moore said.
