William Saroyan

I was delighted to read Mark Arax’s excellent March 4 article, “Fresno Finally Throws Wake for Saroyan.” And on the front page, where it deserved to be.
One of writer William Saroyan’s friends once remarked to him that Saroyan was a genius. Saroyan immediately replied, “Of course I’m a genius. There is no one in the world like me. You cannot become like me.”
It was Saroyan who wrote: “Be the inferior of no man, nor of any be the superior. Remember that every man is a variation of yourself.”
