Immigrants and ERs
Re “Crowded ERs Put Patients on Hold,” June 23: We expect a Times feature to present the “why.” Why have hospitals curtailed ER care? Because ERs lose money. Why is that? Because patients are increasingly uninsured. Why is that? Because of vast numbers of poor immigrants. Why didn’t The Times mention that? Because of its politically correct self-censorship.

Re “County’s Dilemma: Cost vs. Care,” June 24: There is no dilemma. Care. Nationwide. There will be abuses? Iniquitous--but they can be dealt with, and nothing is more iniquitous than condemning thousands to sickness and death on fiscal grounds.
