Senate OKs New Tack on ‘Son of Sam’ Law

A bill to rescue the intent of California’s “Son of Sam” law, which prohibited criminals from profiting from their crimes by selling their stories for books, movies and other moneymakers, was unanimously approved by the Senate on Thursday.
The bill (SB 1887) by Sen. Bruce McPherson (R-Santa Cruz) to discourage such sales responds to a state Supreme Court decision that found the law unconstitutional.
