Partisan Board Members Name School for Bush

The decision to name a new elementary school after President Bush has some school board members admitting partisan politics played a role.
The move was approved 4 to 3 Wednesday, with all four votes for the proposal coming from Republicans. Some residents and board members protested, saying the president has not yet established a legacy worth commemorating.
In most California districts, school boards are nonpartisan. Stockton Unified board members do not declare party affiliation when they run for office, but the four members who voted for the proposal all identify themselves as Republicans.
