NBC’s telecast of the Lakers’ 106-102 victory over Sacramento in Game 6 of the Western Conference finals Friday night drew an impressive 33 rating with a 52 share in Los Angeles.
That means the game was watched in one-third of all TV households, and in more than half of those where TV was being watched at the time.
In Sacramento, the game did even better, with a 43.0/64.
Nationally, the game recorded a 13.5 overnight rating with a 24 share, an 82% increase over a comparable game last season--Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals between Philadelphia and Milwaukee. That game earned a 7.4/13.
The rating for Friday night’s game peaked at 8:30 p.m. with a 16.8/36.
The 13.5 average for the game represents the highest overnight rating for an NBA playoff game, excluding the NBA Finals, since Game 7 of the 2000 Western Conference finals between the Lakers and Portland, which drew a 14.5/23.
New Jersey’s victory over Boston Friday night earned an 8.7 overnight rating with a 16 share nationally, and in L.A. the game drew an 11.1/24.
Final national ratings will not be available until Monday.
