An 18-year-old student walking to school Thursday morning was shot and wounded by two male assailants who asked for his gang affiliation, school police said.
One bullet grazed the abdomen of the Mission Continuation School student, whose name was not released and who is not believed to be a gang member.
He was treated at a local hospital and released, said Monica Carazo, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Unified School District.
The student was walking across a pedestrian bridge near the school, which shares a campus with San Fernando High, when he was approached about 7 a.m. by two people thought to be gang members, said school district Officer Al Espinoza.
After the shooting, school officials secured the campus and classes proceeded as normal for the rest of the day, Carazo said.
