Retiree Gives $100,000 to Orange Coast College
Retired Orange Coast College history professor Giles T. Brown has donated $100,000 to the college in the form of a charitable gift annuity.
Brown, 85, who has now donated more than $200,000 to the college foundation, is guaranteed income for the remainder of his life.
Brown, who chaired the college’s social sciences division for 12 years before leaving for Cal State Fullerton, is one of the first to donate a $100,000 annuity to a state community college.
Under the Charitable Gift Annuity Program, senior citizens can make donations to colleges and receive income for life.
Brown ultimately became chair of the history department at Cal State Fullerton and later served as dean of graduate studies and associate vice president of academic programs. He retired in 1983.
