Students Held at Campus During Gun Scare
From Times Staff Reports
Junipero Serra School was locked down about 2 p.m. Monday when authorities received a report of a teen walking near the east Ventura campus with a gun.
It was later determined that a 16-year-old who lives nearby had been seen carrying a toy gun, said Ventura Police Sgt. Brock Avery.
Police questioned the teen, and because he hadn’t broken any laws, issued a verbal warning. The teen cooperated with police.
Nearly 550 elementary students were locked inside their classrooms as a precaution. They were released to their parents about 2:30 p.m.
