Boy Dies of Injuries in Crash That Killed Mom
A 22-month-old Burbank boy whose mother was killed in a New Year’s Day traffic collision died Saturday of injuries he suffered in the wreck, authorities said.
Alec Gonzales had been brain dead since the car being driven by his grandmother was broadsided, said a spokesman for Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. His mother, Melissa Perez, 21, was killed.
The other driver, Troy Lee Shaw, 33, of Van Nuys, has pleaded not guilty to felony charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, vehicular manslaughter and drunk driving that caused an injury. Shaw remains in jail in lieu of $215,000 bail.
