Ambrose Issues Apology for Plagiarizing Book
Historian Stephen E. Ambrose has acknowledged that sentences and phrases in his book “The Wild Blue” were copied from a work by another historian.
Fred Barnes, executive editor of the Weekly Standard, said Ambrose borrowed passages from “The Wings of Morning” by Thomas Childers. Ambrose, a University of New Orleans professor, does not acknowledge quoting directly from Childers, Barnes said.
In a statement issued Saturday through his publisher, Simon & Schuster, Ambrose said, “Dr. Childers is correct. I made a mistake for which I am sorry. It will be corrected in future editions of the book.”
Childers, a University of Pennsylvania professor, said, “I think it is a classy thing to do.”
