2 Near Death, 1 Paralyzed in Shootings

Two men were on life support and another was left paralyzed in two separate gang-related shootings Thursday on Los Angeles’ Eastside, police said.
Neither man on life support is expected to live, said Det. Rick Peterson of the LAPD’s Hollenbeck Division. The other man, “at best, will be a quadriplegic,” Peterson said.
The first shooting occurred about noon near Fickett Street and Wabash Avenue in Boyle Heights. Two men in their early 20s were shot, Peterson said. One man was left on life support; the other was paralyzed.
The other shooting occurred about 4 p.m. in the 400 block of East Avenue 28 near Griffin Avenue in Lincoln Heights.
A man in his 20s was shot in the head and underwent surgery late Thursday, Peterson said.
None of the victims names was released. No arrests had been made as of late Thursday.
There have been four gang-related killings this year in the neighborhoods patrolled by Hollenbeck Division police.
On Tuesday, three men were shot to death and a woman was wounded in Lincoln Heights during a New Year’s party.
