Graffiti Bandits

The suggestion from Gregory Wright (letter, Dec. 29) that a solution to graffiti is the dedication of public walls for “taggers and graffiti artists” to display their works is naive, bleeding-heart wishful thinking of the worst kind. As anyone who has studied this issue will advise, those who do graffiti are bent on damaging someone else’s property by sneak attacks to salve their loser egos.
If we were lucky, one out of 100 would be interested in artistic displays. Catching them and immediately wiping out the malicious property damage they impose is the only solution.
