A senior White House education advisor on Friday toured two Santa Ana schools deemed models of success in the academic achievement of Latino students.
Erica Romero of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans, toured Carl Harvey Elementary and Middle College High schools.
At the elementary school, 98% of its 600 students are Latino. The school scored in the top 10th percentile statewide among similar schools in last year’s Academic Performance Index.
At Middle College High, on the Santa Ana College campus, students take both high school and college-level courses.
District officials credit parents and an emphasis on excellence for the schools’ success.
