Littered Landscape

Am I to believe that the government of South Africa and Dow Chemical can’t look past their checkbooks to see they are choking the very land on which they are living (“Big Bag Battle Opens S. Africa’s War on Litter,” Jan. 30)? I’m no genius on composting, but did anyone ever bring up the idea of using paper bags? You know, the ones with the handles attached--they’re pretty darn good for hauling the goods and, last time I checked, paper was still biodegradable.
