A motorcyclist died Tuesday evening after running into a car that had turned left in front of him at a Santa Ana intersection, police said Wednesday.

Johnny Ridgeway, 33, of Irvine was declared dead at the scene after the collision about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 2300 block of Halliday Street near Warner Avenue.

Ridgeway was traveling east on Warner when a Chevy Astro minivan driven by an unlicensed 38-year-old woman from Santa Ana suddenly turned in front of him to go south on Halliday, according to Sgt. Baltazar De La Riva, a spokesman for the Santa Ana Police Department.

“The cyclist was unable to stop and struck the van,” suffering massive head injuries, De La Riva said.
