President Condemns Alleged Russian Raid

President Eduard A. Shevardnadze attended the funeral of a man killed in what Georgian officials assert was a Russian air raid, and he said Moscow had “broken all limits” with the alleged attack.
Russia has denied bombing the lawless Pankisi Gorge, where the Kremlin says rebels from the breakaway republic of Chechnya are hiding. Russia reiterated that it was prepared to hand over proof, including radar transmissions, to Georgian authorities.
But Shevardnadze, speaking at a church in Pankisi where 67-year-old Guram Otiashvili’s body was laid out, told about 1,000 people that many world leaders had written to express their indignation.
