Council Member Pleads Guilty in Bribery Case
From Staff and Wire Reports
A City Council member has pleaded guilty to trying to solicit a $7,500 bribe from the city attorney.
David Macedo, 44, also told a judge Thursday that he was resigning from the council as well as his engineering job at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
Prosecutors said Macedo had asked for money from City Atty. John Brinton in exchange for voting to continue Brinton’s contract and approve a 6% pay raise.
Macedo faces up to four years in prison and a $10,000 fine. He also could be banned from running for public office.
