This small city outside Bakersfield will adopt “In God We Trust” as its motto. City Councilman Julio Perez, a pastor, asked his colleagues to adopt the motto “as a reminder to cool down and think about the best for our community.”
The city has been in turmoil amid allegations that its leaders embezzled funds.
Former Arvin Police Chief Rande Eighmy was sentenced to three years’ probation this month for allegedly stealing $6,000 and using some of the money to buy a truck for his son.
A councilman was indicted in January for allegedly misusing tax money.
Also, Mayor Juan Olivares faced a recall election last week, but voters retained him.
