Ex-School Custodian Pleads Guilty in Sex Case

A former Buena High School custodian pleaded guilty Tuesday to possession of child pornography, a misdemeanor with a maximum sentence of one year in jail.
John Gomez Ruiz, 41, was arrested Feb. 2 after several videotapes depicting children having sex were found when detectives from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department searched Ruiz’s Saticoy home and school work area, authorities said.
The search was prompted by a sting operation with the U.S. Postal Service to catch mail-order buyers of child-porn videos, Deputy Dist. Atty. David Lehr said.
Lehr said authorities also found Ruiz in possession of more than 400 pieces of women’s underwear, including Buena High cheerleading clothing, and adult pornography. No students appeared to be involved, Lehr said.
Ruiz has been on unpaid leave from the Ventura Unified School District since his arrest, officials said.
