New Lawyer Named for British Official’s Son

The son of Britain’s top judicial officer, arrested in Orange County on suspicion of stalking a tanning salon worker, has a new lawyer.
Tuesday’s scheduled arraignment for Alastair Irvine of Newport Beach was delayed to Sept. 3 to give James D. Riddet, a Santa Ana-based criminal defense attorney, time to familiarize himself with the case. Irvine, 25, is expected to enter a plea then.
The lawyer said he had spoken directly with Irvine’s father, Lord Chancellor Alexander “Derry” Irvine, head of Britain’s judiciary.
Alastair Irvine was arrested June 21 and charged with two felony counts of vandalism and one felony count each of stalking, burglary and making criminal threats.
He also faces a misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.
