Gaucho Players Sign With Four-Year Schools
Saddleback College’s Blair Lucas, a third baseman from Lake Forest El Toro, and Kory Knell, a first baseman from Salt Lake City, have signed with Brigham Young.
Other Saddleback players to sign recently include Scott Cheo, an outfielder from Mission Viejo Capistrano Valley, with California; Kaleo Lopez, a pitcher from Kapa in Hawaii, with Vanguard; Aaron Swick, a pitcher from Santa Ana Foothill, with Cal, and Nick Gor, a pitcher from Anaheim Esperanza, with Oral Roberts.
In other commitments:
* Ashanti Cook, a 6-foot-3 point guard from Westchester who originally signed with New Mexico, has signed with Georgetown after receiving a release from his letter of intent in the wake of Lobo Coach Fran Fraschilla’s resignation.
* Vanguard has signed three basketball players: Conrad Adamczak, a guard from L.A. Pacific Hills who played at Santa Monica College; James Hartman, a guard from San Clemente High who played at Irvine Valley College, and Kyle Egkan, a center from Villa Park who spent his freshman season at Pt. Loma Nazarene.
* Nathaniel Kramer, a forward from Hacienda Heights Los Altos who has attended Mt. San Antonio College and Fullerton College, has signed with the Vanguard soccer team.
* Tyler Kealey, a 5-foot-11 point guard at Burbank Bell-Jeff, has received a scholarship to Grambling.
* Soccer player Shanna Hudson, who will be a senior this fall at Palisades High, has committed to USC. Hudson led Palisades to a 12-0 record in the Western League last season.
* Joe See, who left Oregon State in June after his freshman year, will transfer to UC Santa Barbara and be eligible to play in the 2003-04 season. See, a 5-foot-11 point guard from Concord De La Salle, played all 29 games for the Beavers last season, averaging 6.1 points and 1.9 assists.
* David Hazell of West Torrance, the Master’s wrestling champion and fourth-place finisher in state at heavyweight, has signed with Appalachian State.
Five Mt. San Antonio College softball players have accepted scholarships to four-year universities: Shannon Acevedo at Cal State Northridge, Dena DuBois at Oregon State, Sylvia Pfeiffer at Kansas, Sonia Rojo at New Mexico State and Janell Badar at Pittsburgh State. The Huskies posted a school-best record of 34-18 this spring, losing to Fullerton in the Southern California Regional.
