Tax Increment Might Be Supermarket’s Salvation

Re “Mexican Supermarket Meets Obstacles in Anaheim,” Aug. 5:
There are six areas of redevelopment in Anaheim, one of which is the Plaza area. This area thrives by a vehicle known as tax increment--the payoff of bonds to revitalize and restore this once blighted mall. City officials appropriately denied a company’s application for a market since most grocery items are tax exempt, which would not allow redevelopment to pay off remaining debt before the life of this project is complete.
This agency has brought much good to our city. The owners should submit an application that is more creative, providing the essential ingredient, tax increment.
