One month after he lost the contest for the 2nd District seat on the Los Angeles City Council, Assemblyman Tony Cardenas (D-Panorama City) said Friday that he has filed papers to raise money to run in the 6th District next year.
Under a redistricting plan recommended to the council by a citizens panel, the 6th District would be moved from the Westside to the east San Fernando Valley. The proposed boundaries encompass the neighborhood where Cardenas lives.
Cardenas said his Assembly district includes 60% of the proposed new 6th District. “I feel real confident that with my 51/2 years of experience serving this area I have a lot to offer,” he said.
Two others--Michael Bonin and Sheila Bernard--earlier filed papers for the 6th District, but did so before the new boundaries involving the Valley inclusion were proposed.
