City Gets Early Start on Scandinavian Festival
The city will take on a Nordic flavor this month in preparation for Cal Lutheran University’s upcoming Scandinavian Festival.
All this month, the Thousand Oaks Library on Janss Road will have a display of artifacts and photos of local Scandinavian pioneers, such as the Olsen and Janss families and Richard Pederson, whose 130-acre farm made up most of the original Cal Lutheran campus.
On Saturday, Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Westlake will have storytelling from 10:30 a.m. to noon, costumed chefs preparing Scandinavian dishes, such as krumkake and aebleskivers, from noon to 2 p.m., and Viking exhibitions and weaving demonstrations from 2 to 4 p.m. The event is free.
The Scandinavian Festival, which celebrates Nordic and Baltic cultures, will open April 20 at the university’s Kingsmen Park.
The two-day event begins at 10:30 a.m. each day.
