Gov. Gray Davis has appointed Los Angeles labor leader Ricardo Icaza as a trustee of the California State University system, the governor’s office announced Wednesday.
Icaza, 67, is the president of Local 770 of the United Food and Commercial Workers and, for 14 years, has also served as president of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor. His appointment to the unsalaried position must be confirmed by the state Senate.
The Cal State board of trustees has 24 voting members. If Icaza is confirmed, one vacancy will remain.
