Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers have moved a large arsenal of weapons, including Russian-built Scud missiles, to positions near the border with Pakistan, a Pakistani army officer said.
A force of between 20,000 and 25,000 Afghan soldiers also has been deployed along the border near the Khyber Pass, Capt. Abid Bahtti told reporters at an army checkpoint.
“We are already prepared, we are ready to defend the motherland,” he said. “The Pakistan border is very secure.”
