Player Is Critically Injured During Football Game
SPARTA, Ohio — A Delaware Buckeye Valley High School football player sustained head injuries while making a tackle Friday night and was taken to a hospital by helicopter.
Brandon Wade, 18, was in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, where doctors were evaluating his injuries, said hospital spokesman Kim Graham.
Wade, a senior, went down when his head hit the knee of a Sparta Highland player. He was placed on a stretcher but did not lose consciousness, Buckeye Valley Coach Marty Tinkler said.
Both teams met on the field and kneeled in prayer.
The game was called with 1:10 to play in the third quarter. Highland was ahead, 26-7, and was awarded a victory.
Sparta is about 40 miles northeast of Columbus.
