A 19-year-old transient was arrested Friday after he allegedly killed a Burbank man, then set his apartment on fire in an attempt to destroy the evidence, Burbank Police Lt. Tim Stehr said.
Police officers found the suspect, Juan Carlos Martinez-Fuentez, walking in downtown Los Angeles on Friday afternoon, Stehr said. They tracked him down by following a tip that he had been seen driving the victim’s car just before the fire started, the lieutenant added.
The fire broke out around 6 a.m. Thursday in the 1000 block of North Glenoaks Boulevard. The name of the victim, a 62-year-old, was not released. His cause of death was “trauma to the neck area.”
Martinez-Fuentez was booked on suspicion of murder at Burbank Jail and held in lieu of $1-million bail. He will be arraigned Tuesday.
