U.S. Advisors to Train Filipino Soldiers

U.S. military advisors will begin training Filipino troops fighting Muslim extremists allegedly linked to Osama bin Laden’s Al Qaeda network, Philippine officials said.
Five advisors arrived in the southern Philippines on Tuesday, joining 25 other U.S. troops who arrived last week to train Filipino troops fighting Abu Sayyaf rebels.
Philippines military spokesman Lt. Col. Darwin Guerra said the five advisors arrived in the southern city of Zamboanga, which is 12 miles north of Basilan island, where soldiers are battling Muslim extremists of the Abu Sayyaf group.
